"...Dedicated to Desert-Lovers, Beach-Combers, & All Afficionados de Baja California..."

And here is a true Baja-Story  it's a good one.

This story goes a while back, when there was only one launching ramp at Guillermos and the old fish inspector building was right next to the ramp unter an old saltpine tree. Jim, one of the owner of Villa Vita was still alive. He had Jim's air-service from San Diego flying down here and his hotel and bar have been well patronized. Our Doc just started out to build his camp ground, 5 km South of the village. And here starts the story:

The deadly Fish
During the summer months, the fishing is excellent here in the midrift part of the Sea of Cortez. Despite very hot and humid weather, many avid fisherman come from far away and from all over the world to catch the big fish of their life. In their excitement, they often disregard the rules, the hot and unforgiving desert plays by. It was on such a day, that an angler exhausted himself in a challenging fight with a too big of a fish and adversely instead of the fish the angler died.
The astonished native guide was frightened as the angler let go of his road and just toppled over. There was little he could do, he put his gaff away and set the man upright on the bottom of his boat. He started his boats motor and raced to shore to find help.
Once on the beach, no advice or help could be found, because all of his buddies where out there fishing too. The best thing he could do, was to drag the corpulent man under a big shade tree, near the waters edge. He paid him his last respects and thought: He hasn't even paid me yet.
Fortunately, we have a very good young Doctor here in the village, but he was fishing too, because he and his family can't live from the income of his trade as the going rates for medical service are rather low. Sometime later he arrived at the scene, he took a good look at the dead man under the tarp and had few suggestions to offer. One thing was sure, the corps could not lay out here in the heat any longer. It needed to be transferred to a cooler spot without delay.
No doubt, it was a big challenge to find a cool spot in this sizzling hot weather in a remote fishing village without regular electricity hours and not any public services at all.
