| There are quite
a few places in Bahia where you can go out on
the town and have a meal. There are numerous Taco
Stands along with several restaurants. At
the taco stands you should keep in mind that they do
not have the funds to purchase the very expensive bar
permits. So they are not allowed to serve you
beer or other alcoholic beverages. Ask politely
if you may bring your own refreshements to the
table and make sure it's in styrofoam cups or other
similar containers. Play it cool and keep it low
key so as not to get them in to any trouble.
The
service may be somewhat slower than you are used
to North of the border, but remember here they
prepare
your meal fresh when you order it. There are no trucks
pulling up to the rear of the restaurants dropping off
pre-made salsas, soups etc. Also our location
here in Bahia is, "So close, but so far away...";
this makes obtaining fresh veggies, salad and other
like ingredients
costly and difficult to come by. The establishments
here do the best they can with what is available. As Tomas
used to say, "When you travel, leave your head
at home."
Be willing to adapt
to the local
style.
