Located
on the Sea of Cortez, roughly half way down the Baja
Peninsula, Bahia
de los Angeles is one of the most scenic locations you
will find anywhere. Bahia has it all; desert,
mountain, and sea. The area surrounding it is
home to ancient missions, rock pools, and wilderness
beyond description. It's waters are beautiful
as well. Just going for a simple boat ride is
an exhilarating experience. Fishing, snorkeling,
diving, beachcombing, exploring...name your pleasure; you can find
it all here in Bahia de los Angeles. Bahia
has a rich and interesting history. The town's
Museo (Museum) has a nice display detailing much of
this.
The
town now has 24 hour electricity which is supplied by
a power plant near the town of Vizcaino which is about
3 hours to the South of Bahia de los Angeles.
La
Gringa is the beach area North of town and it's a nice
spot. The beach for the most part is gravel with
the banks dropping off at a nice slope. That makes
the water nice and refreshing when swimming in the summer
when temps are hot!. There
are many roads leading all kinds of places out from
there but check them out first as conditions may change
due to weather and other considerations. The road
is paved about half way out and ends just past the Hotel
Los Vientos.
Rincon
is the "back bay" to the South of town. The
most popular spots to see out there are the estuary/lagoon
and Playa La Mona. La Mona can sometimes be reached
on foot, but better to visit there by boat. If
you continue straight on out the road going South out
of town, you'll come to the old mining spot of Los Flores.
There is an old building there and some gravesites.
If
you drive West out of town, as if you would be returing
to Hwy. 1, you'll see some roads leading off into the
desert. Some of them lead to old Ranchos
or other spots of interest. Sometimes it's nice
just to take a day drive out into the desert and enjoy
the scenery and peace and quiet out there. Wherever
your travels take you in Bahia, enjoy!
